The Queen prepares to unveil the West Bank plaque.

 Councillor Gleave was able to give the Queen the benefit of his knowledge on the project she had come to see, while Prince Philip learned some of the history’ of the area from Mrs. Gleave.

 The chance of a lifetime as local folk get a close-up look at the Queen.

 The restored Widnes Lock,Lock 10 at Spike Island, July 1982.

 West Bank received an award in the "Pride of Place” competition, which was organised by the Nationwide television programme and the Department of the Environment. It also picked up the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Award for the regeneration of Spike Island in 1979.
